IoT and Beacon Uses in Banking: Denizbank and Blesh
DenizBank, a subsidiary of Sberbank, has won several international awards for its innovative digital solutions, specifically in integrating IoT into its mobile banking platforms.
fastPay and Blesh
As one of Turkey’s pioneer mobile payment platforms, Denizbank’s fastPay app partnered with Blesh to communicate location-based offers.
Volkswagen Smart Key Fobs
Blesh and Volkswagen Turkey have partnered for the Smart Key Fob, which has been handed out to new customers starting November 2016 and sold online here.
The smart key fob is a beacon itself, as it works with Bluetooth Smart (aka Bluetooth Low Energy). It is paired with Volkswagen’s mobile app, “Volkswagenim” (My Volkswagen). The key fob is unique in a way that it includes Google’s Physical Web functionalities. In fact, it is one of the first major Physical Web products on the market.
Adidas Store Opening
Adidas Originals opened its new store in Nisantasi Istanbul in late March 2017 and wanted to engage potential Originals customers to enjoy the opening party (and come visit the store) by broadcasting a 360 degree live video from the opening party.
The solution Blesh recommended – collaborating with Isobar Turkey – was to equip the new Adidas Originals Store with beacons to identify interested visitors passing by, and later retarget them by inviting them to the store on the day of the opening.
Physical Web and Eddystone
The Physical Web is a Google-led project as a tool to manage through the complexity of the Internet of Things. It can connect any physical object to the web and render them smart with the help of portable devices called UriBeacons that broadcast URL signals, and the Eddystone™ format. Blesh was the first company to commercialise Physical Web beacons as well as one of the few companies to fully support the Eddystone format.
Guides: How and Where to Use Beacons
It is a fairly new technology but there are a wealth of iBeacon use cases. Beacons help communicating with masses at airport check-in locations, local stores and supermarkets, banks, museums and various other locations.
Beacons can be used for promoting campaigns and offers, leveraging mobile content of your app and its features. For example, one can get the queue number right form their phone before entering the bank. When in a museum, detailed information on exhibited materials can pop up on your phone when you are right by them.
Beacons also provide data on your visitors so that you can know them and offer your services accordingly. Here are a few ideas from Blesh:
